About Us

Who We Are

We are a medium-sized congregation located two miles west of Statesville, NC in the community of Loray.  As Christians we are called to worship and glorify God in church communities.  Concord seeks to be a source of community in west Statesville and surrounding areas spreading the Good News of Christ through faith, word, and action.

What We Believe

We are a congregation of the Presbyterian Church (USA), a denomination centered in the Reformed theological tradition beginning in the 16th century Reformation led by John Calvin.  We affirm Christ as Lord and Savior and that God calls each of us to define our beliefs by the use of scripture and the historic confessions of the church.

History

Concord was organized in 1775 by a group of Ulster-Scots that moved to North America and settled on the western frontier of North Carolina.  According to tradition, the church and its community has existed since the 1750s, worshipping during the time of the French and Indian War.  Concord was organized alongside its sister congregation, Bethany Presbyterian.  The church's two cemeteries, heritage room, and library are all excellent places to find out more information about the church and it's early parishioners.  Many in the congregation today are descendants of those early settlers.

Affiliations

Concord Church is a congregation of the Presbyterian Church (USA) and a member of Salem Presbytery.

Our roots lie in the Reformed theological tradition and we are, via denomination, members of the World Communion of Reformed Churches.  As congregation of the PC(USA) we are in full communion with several other mainline denominations and are members of the National Council of Churches and World Council of Churches.
